Competition for 2017 Heats Up as Honours Are Even at Prestwick Golf Club
On Monday 11th July during the Open championship week, TaylorMade welcomed 12 retail partners and 12 media partners, bringing the industry together at the historic Prestwick golf club to battle it on the golf course where the Open first began. Guests were announced on the tee by the one and only Ivor Robson, creating more than a few first tee nerves.
If Ivor Robson announcing wasn't enough, the trade and media were surprised by the arrival of the U.S. Open Champion himself, Dustin Johnson. Fergus Bisset of Golf Monthly described his first tee shot as "perhaps my most surreal experience in golf".
Captaining Team Trade was David Fleming from Prestwick and for Team Media, Chris Jones from Today’s Golfer. Battling the wind, the Team Trade took the early lead but on the back 9 the media clawed it back to even out the scores and the match finished 6-6. The round was followed by the Prestwick club secretary giving a talk on the history of the club and the origins of The Open Championship and dinner.
2017 will see the Industry Cup taking place once again during The Open week, pitting the media partners against trade partners in the hunt for the coveted trophy.
Congratulations to both teams and TaylorMade look forward to the competition again next year!
